Do what I call "The Corner Technique". It's quite literally just focusing on one single corner at a time. Grab something to put miscellaneous things from the corner into, another capsule to throw trash, and when either gets full, simply focus on emptying that single capsule. Once that is done, anything that was too big to put into the capsules, simply move each big thing individually into its proper place. Presto! A clean corner! You now got something done instead of just staring at the mess not knowing where to start. Rinse and repeat until the floor is clear, then finally vacuum and such.
