In my eyes, the greatest act of defiance is refusing to participate in a system where creatures love to hate & hate to love.

Human Rights

Those who should find themselves opposing human rights can no longer in good faith call themselves human.

There are shades of gray to this argument, for example: freedom of religion is one such human right, yet some religions allow for the killing of others who don't share their belief. So by accepting one right, you are indirectly denying another. Tricky situation.

In a truly free society, one's freedom should end where another's begins.

@Jukestar
A little idealistic, things are rarely black and white in this world.
Conflict is in our nature, people clash over ideas all the time - I don't see this changing anytime soon. I'm not sure I would enjoy living in a Utopian society anyway, who would I argue with then? :P

I find the word Utopia fascinating in itself as it literally translates to "no place", and is defined as "an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect."

I understand your argument, I also just think though that it really isn't that hard to be a decent human-being is all. This is a general statement by the way, not directed at you.

@Jukestar
And I understand yours, however the term "decent human being" is subjective - what I believe that is, what you believe that is and what others believe that is are sure to differ in certain areas. Thus, another conflict is born.

I think there is a threshold where you can remain in civility, and I think a lot of people go outside of that threshold. I believe that every human, whether capable of working or not, is entitled to at least affordable food, shelter, and healthcare if not free all-together.

@Jukestar
It's great that you believe that, but others won't - it's just a fact of life.

How do you put these beliefs into action? If these things are provided by the state, then we're delving into communism. You need only look to modern China to see how that will turn out.

Certainly you're not waiting for Bill Gates or Geroge Soros to fund these free meals, houses and healthcare - I think it will be a cold day in hell before any multi billionaire voluntarily lifts a finger to help the common man.

@Jukestar
I found another quote of his that basically sums up what I was saying before, “Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”

Feeling one way is good, but actually doing something about it is the hard part.

This was an interesting conversation, hope my questions weren't too pressing - I'm always interested in hearing what other people think... unless they prioritize emotional over logical thinking.

Not at all. Thank you for the conversation.

@DeaghlanNG your rights end where my FEELINGS begin

@S3C
Ya, basically where we're at in the 21st century, sadly.
