"Patriotism" has lost its actual meaning a long time ago. Today it is just used as a code-word for "racism/fascism/right-wing populist nationalism" by the far-right.
When you hear somebody say "patriotic" with a straight face I can almost guarantee you that they are among the most disgusting people on the planet.

It's better for people to take pride in their communities, and a country is kind of a very large community, though that is more true for smaller countries and those that are more culturally distinct from their neighbours.
It's good having different cultures, so people should be proud of their own culture, their culture may or may not be tied to their national identity, but it usually is.

A fair point, but one cannot deny that patriotism can definitely be taken to an extreme when war is carried out not for the sake of the innocent inhabitants of a land, but for the furthering of a corrupt agenda.
